Glaciers are melting—but we don’t know how fast. Why?
Because in wilderness areas like what’s along the Continental Divide Trail, fixed weather stations aren’t allowed.
No data. No proof. No path forward.
What's the solution?
We’re launching a groundbreaking science project that turns hikers into mobile weather stations.
With a lightweight, portable sensor attached to your pack, you’ll collect temperature and humidity data every 10 meters.
It syncs to your phone and uploads to a global database—giving scientists real-time insight into what’s happening in glacial regions for the first time ever.
We need you!
- CDT hikers (2025 season and beyond)
- Backpackers passionate about conservation
- Cyclists on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR)
- Funders and supporters who want to drive world-first research
Every data point you collect is unique. Every step counts.
This has never been done before.
What will it cost me?
70g / 2.5oz to your base weight! We loan the weather station with no cost ($) to you.

Why It Matters:
This is more than just a hike. Your trail data could help protect vital water sources, influence climate policy, and support mountain communities already facing the consequences of change.
